Casa Tarakajian is an interior design studio led by Grecia Tarakajian. She has been styling and renovating homes in Chicago and New York since 2018. Her approach is founded in the belief that homes carry important stories and memories that design should honor. With expertise in eclectic and vintage styles, Grecia integrates her knowledge of color, light, functionality, and art to create spaces that distinctly differ from one another. Whether it’s sourcing the perfect credenza or serving as a liaison between trusted contractors, Grecia is dedicated to helping clients find a deep sense of comfort and joy in their living spaces.

Meet Grecia
I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, a valley nestled in the Sonoran Desert. Temperatures were either absurdly high or stunningly cold, which meant staying indoors was the norm. My parents emigrated from Mexico and I was raised in seven different homes throughout my childhood and adolescence. I never fully felt settled and often spent my time daydreaming of living in Mister Rogers’ television house or classic brick homes found in Richard Scarry books. Eventually my living conditions became unsafe and I spent a lot of time in my bedroom. I learned to cope by rearranging my furniture, decorating the room with paper crafts and different bedding, and even painting the walls without my parents’ permission. Trading Spaces became my obsession and I nabbed my mother’s InStyle magazines to look into celebrity homes. At one point during college I was homeless but I distinctly remember trying to make the temporary room I was sleeping in look and feel good (even if my bed was a couch).

I’ve always found the concept of home to be a source of inspiration and deep emotion. Due to familial and economic strife, it’s become apparent to me that everyone deserves to live in a space they feel safe and comfortable in, whether you’re owning or renting.

Today, I’m a first-time homeowner living in Chicago with my wife and my dog Dawson (affectionately named after the Creek). After a decade of working in the nonprofit world, I’ve realized I can make the world a better place by using my vision, care, and resourcefulness to design thoughtful living spaces for those that want them. A home is meant to be a sanctuary, one that is both practical and beautiful.

In my spare time, you can find me hosting dinner/karaoke parties with loved ones, crying into my popcorn bag at the Music Box, and writing that never-ending manuscript.
